Guide to interpret a GNSS-denied evaluation
GNSS has long been the foundation of airborne navigation, but jamming and spoofing have turned GNSS-denied performance into a critical decision factor for UAV and aerospace operators. Today, the real question is no longer how accurate a system is with RTK, but how far and how precisely it can navigate when GNSS disappears. Assessing this capability cannot rely on a single outage, a perfect flight, or a flattering percentage figure. True performance only emerges through repeated, controlled, and statistically meaningful testing. Environmental conditions, vibration levels, temperature variations, and trajectory geometry all shape inertial behavior and can dramatically alter results. This is why GNSS-denied evaluation must move beyond “best-case demos” toward qualification-style testing that reflects real missions. In this article, we explain how to read a GNSS-denied test report correctly, what truly matters in the data, and how to distinguish realistic performance from optimistic marketing figures—so you can choose the right navigation solution with confidence.
