Hydrographic map of an 8 figure/heading trajectory

Heading Performance Hamburg Harbour hydrographic map

SBG Systems introduces the 8 Figure/Heading hydrographic map, showcasing the river surface of the Elbe during a complex 8 Figure maneuver. This survey examines how the heading performance of inertial sensors responds to challenging, dynamic conditions in real-world scenarios.

Surveyors selected the 8 Figure maneuver for its ability to test the heading accuracy of the sensor. The maneuver involves tight turns in opposite directions, which pushes the system’s capacity to maintain precise orientation. During this operation, engineers pushed the sensors to their limits, simulating high-precision conditions typical in hydrographic surveys.

Next, the team equipped the vessel with a high-performance fiber-optic sensor solution to provide a real-time reference. This sensor system captured highly accurate heading and trajectory data throughout the entire maneuver. Engineers then used the reference data to compare the difference surfaces, allowing them to assess the inertial system’s performance.

The resulting map includes bathymetric quality measures and trajectory data, providing a comprehensive view of the 8 Figure maneuver’s course. This interactive visualization allows users to explore the river surface and analyze the precision of the sensor’s heading during the maneuver.

In addition to the bathymetric data, the map displays detailed difference surfaces. These surfaces provide insights into any deviations from the reference data, highlighting areas where the sensor may have drifted or lost accuracy. The map also allows users to assess the bathymetric quality of the riverbed beneath the vessel during these critical turns.

Finally, we invite hydrographers, engineers, and surveyors to explore the 8 Figure/Heading survey map area. This hydrographic map offers a detailed view of the Elbe River and provides valuable insights into how advanced inertial sensors perform during complex maneuvers. This survey highlights the importance of accurate heading performance for high-precision hydrographic mapping, even in challenging conditions.
