Major Firmware Update for Ekinox & Apogee Sensors

2.0 Firmware

SBG Systems announces a major firmware update for the Ekinox and Apogee product lines as well as a new Software Development Kit. The firmware 2.0 shows major performance improvement and fixes some bugs. It is recommended to all users.

New Extended Kalman Filter

This new firmware contains a new Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) showing important overall performance improvement. This new EKF is now common to all SBG sensors, allowing all sensors to instantly benefit from every new development.

Automatic Lever Arms Estimation

SBG Systems was one of the first companies to introduce an automatic lever arm estimation, running for years in all our products. With the Firmware 2.0, this automatic estimation is now part of an easy to use and accurate, one time calibration procedure, able to refine the various GNSS antenna lever arms. Once the calibration procedure is performed and stored in non-volatile memory, the Ekinox or Apogee benefits from a faster and more accurate initialization. This calibration procedure provides unprecedented quality control with estimated accuracy feedback on each parameter.

Higher Performance Dead Reckoning

The new firmware automotive profile has been highly improved by differentiating road and vehicle inclination. Users benefit from a greatly reduced altitude drift in case of GNSS harsh condition or outage.

 

Major Improvement on the Heave Algorithm

The SBG Heave algorithm has been offering very good performance for years as well as adjusting automatically to the sea state. The new design allows a dramatically reduced phase error, even in wide spectrum sea states. Thanks to this improvement, tests show a +30 to +50% performance improvement on Heave, Surge, and Sway (depending on the sea state).

Delayed Heave Time Computation Reduced

Thanks to an optimized algorithm, the new delayed heave provides a similar performance level, but a greatly reduced latency, going from 450s delay down to 150s delay. This should help delayed heave users to limit their mission and logging time.
